Coaching

As a trained executive and life coach, accredited as an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation, Betsy helps people move from where they are to where they want to be in their professional and personal lives. She works with successful lawyers, business owners and executives in the nonprofit and for profit sectors who are tired of putting their success first and their happiness last. She helps people focus on creating space to live in tune with their highest priorities. Her motto is "Create space to make a change."

Clients say...

"I'd recommend coaching for anyone who needs some 'personal alignment.'"
--DM, Business Owner

"You are supportive, insightful and a great listener. You have challenged me to think outside the limits I imposed on myself and as a result, I am already a better, more confident and more relaxed person."
--SD, successfully navigated career transition

Coaching is...
a confidential professional service that supports individuals in making desired change in their lives by identifying values and priorities, and then taking action to implement what is most important. Coaching presumes that individuals have the power to change and achieve their goals and that the support, direction, and accountability provided by a coach can help people navigate transition more efficiently and easily. The coaching relationship is based on mutual respect, integrity, and honesty. The coach helps clients develop their own resources and solutions by listening and questioning, and by providing structure and accountability.

Coaching can be helpful when. . .

  • You want to make change in your personal or work life to experience more joy and satisfaction, but don't know where to start.

  • Supporting people wishing to make needed lifestyle changes for health and wellness.
  • Coaching can be helpful for people looking to make a wide variety of changes. It is essential that individuals find a coach that they trust, feel comfortable with, and believe can effectively assist them.
  • The Coaching process. . .

  • An initial session by telephone. We will determine goal(s), and determine a schedule, typically three sessions per month.
  • Speak regularly for one-half hour by telephone, during which you and I discuss progress on various tasks, identify barriers and celebrate areas of accomplishment.
  • Between scheduled calls, the client is entitled to unlimited touch-base calls and unlimited email.
  • Between scheduled calls the client completes mutually agreed upon tasks.

My Philosophy and Expertise Regarding Coaching. . .
I believe if we focus our time and energy, we all can achieve our goals and dreams. My coaching is based on two decades of study and teaching in areas of personal responsibility and effectiveness, spirituality, team building, and course work in the fields of coaching and interpersonal communication.

I am a member of the International Coach Federation and completed Coach U's Core Essential Fast Track Program.

  • My business activities focus on helping organizations and individuals to achieve their goals through facilitation and training in the areas of organizational development, public speaking, stress management and work life issues. A certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, I also teach yoga locally and at conferences in the U.S.

Coaching is Different from Therapy. . .
Coaching focuses on achieving particular goals. Its orientation toward the future and focus on action distinguish it from counseling. Similar to counseling, coaching uses a one-on-one format in a relationship based on confidentiality and trust.

Betsy has been most helpful by actively demonstrating her acceptance of me and my process exactly as I am and where I am and then gently and creatively encouraging me to move through my own blocks. Beyond the acceptance and gentle encouragement, the most helpful technique was to help me break down my overwhelming goals into manageable tasks.
    --P.L., writing a Master's Degree thesis
